Hotel Derek Formal Engagement Portraits – Alice + Lance

I know we promised the second part of the pictures from our trip last week, but I wanted to show something we did at Hotel Derek first. This time we shot Alice and Lance’s bride and groom portraits before the wedding, we like to call it a “formal engagement session”. We love Hotel Derek! We got married there and shot there over 10 thousand times since. We never seem to run out of stuff to shoot. The biggest reason is of course that our couples are great to work with. We are very blessed!

Houston Downtown Engagement Portrait Photography – Puja + Rahul

Puja and Rahul had a short legal ceremony at a beautiful garden, you can check out those pictures HERE. A few months later they had their engagement pictures taken. It seems a little out of the normal sequence, but they were actually getting ready for a huge wedding several months later (more on that soon).

Downtown engagements are so hip, I especially love the indoor pictures with the colorful lights in the background!! Check them out.

If you haven’t noticed, Asian people don’t care about the groom seeing the bride in her dress before the wedding. In fact, it’s tradition to do the formal engagement session in their gown and tux beforehand!! Bad luck or not, it’s for them to decide In fact, Alice and I went dress shopping together for our wedding, so you know how much we believe in that superstition…HAHA!

Mei and Jason wanted to have their engagement session done at a unique location, one where nobody else has thought of. It’s super cool! Have a look!!

Childrens Museum Houston Engagement Photography – Thuy + John

Meet Thuy and John! Thuy is a high school teacher, her subject is programming — very smart girl! Her friends call her Tweety. Yes, like Tweety Bird. John owns Burger Tex, a popular hamburger joint in Northwest Houston. The buns are made fresh twice every day and the hamburgers are to die for! The two of them together make a great couple and they are suuuch a blast to be around! We had a wonderful time hanging out with them at the Childrens Museum and Houston Museum of Natural Science for their engagement session. Check it out!

This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. All the kids have a crazy good time climbing in it.

Hamburgers and hot dogs!! Of course we have to do a shot here in the “Diner”!

They are a big fan of a hip hop dance crew called Jabbawockeez. They even incorporated it in their wedding. You will see when we post their wedding pictures.

BTW, if you are into burgers, you have to give John’s Burger Tex a try. We had it…it was SOOO good!
